Introduction. Close encounters of the daimonic kind. They (the daimons) are the envoys and interpreters that ply between heaven and earth, flying upward with our worship and our prayers, and descending with the heavenly answers and commandments... They form the medium of the prophetic arts, of the priestly rites of sacrifice, initiation, and incantation, of divination and of sorcery, for the divine will not mingle directly with the human, and it is only through the mediation of the spirit world that man can have any intercourse, whether waking or sleeping, with the gods. And the man who is versed in such matters is said to have spiritual powers. - Plato. ...
Greene Liz - The astrological Neptune and the quest for redemptionurn:md5:5ce4f51cf3f034690d87072b58003e552020-02-26T01:18:00+00:002020-02-26T01:24:34+00:00balderGreene LizAgricultureAstrologyBrazilFranceIndeSuisseUkraine

Introduction. The word luminary, according to the Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary, means, very simply, a source of light. It also describes “one who illustrates any subject or instructs mankind.” Thus a luminary in the world of literature or the theatre is someone with a great talent-an actor like Laurence Olivier or a writer like Thomas Mann-who through his or her excellence defines the standard toward which we aspire. A luminary is one who sets an example, embodying the best of what might be achieved. In an earlier and more poetic astrology, the Sun and Moon were called the Luminaries-or, alternatively, the Lights. What are these luminaries, these exemplary “instructors” within us which define in their separate domains the internal standard toward which we aspire as individuals ? In the past, astrology has interpreted planetary placements as a kind of immovable given-the way we are made. The Sun and Moon are therefore said to represent essential characteristics which irrevocably define the individual personality. But any astrological factor is also a process, for when the human being is seen through the lens of psychological insight, he or she is not static, but moves through life in an unending process of change and development. An astrological placement describes an arrow which points somewhere, a creative energy which gradually layers flesh onto the bare bones of archetypal patterning, an intelligent movement which, over time, fills in the stark black-and-white outlines of the essential life-myth with the subtle colours of experience and individual choice. The luminaries in the horoscope are truly instructors, reflecting what we could one day become, portraying in symbolic form the best of what might be achieved. ...
Greene Liz - Sasportas Howard - The inner planetsurn:md5:2a8440be5d8eca052750a7a4c43f08b22020-02-26T01:08:00+00:002020-02-26T01:11:00+00:00balderGreene LizAstrologyEducationEuropeGermanyRacialismThird Reich

Preface. At the bar of history, contemporary judgements seldom prove reliable. Yet if one can be certain of anything it must be that Howard Sasportas will feature prominently in any list of the key figures involved in the reemergence of astrology as a major formative force in Western culture. It is no small tribute to the impact of the man and his work that at his death in London, England, at 17:11 BST, May 12, 1992 (as Pluto crossed his MC and the Sun his IC), Howard Sasportas became the very first astrologer in the history of the British Press to be honoured by a full length obituary. On the day of his funeral, this appeared on the Gazette page of The Independent1, complete with his smiling face. It was published alongside the Court Circular together with celebrations of the lives of two other outstanding souls: Marshal Nie Rongzhen, the last of Mao Tse-Tung’s generals, and Sylvia Syms, described by Frank Sinatra as “the world’s greatest saloon singer”; a juxtaposition of diverse human greatness that Howard’s Venus in Gemini humour and his Mars with Saturn and Pluto in Leo aspirations would have richly appreciated. Howard’s claim to fame and honour-beyond the relatively closed world of professional astrology-lies in the very fact that he was not content to let astrology blush unseen, unused and unconsidered by the larger world. He was determined to put astrology on the map of human consciousness in the service of humanity, and for the self-realization of individual souls. ...
Greene Liz - Sasportas Howard - The development of the personalityurn:md5:26425c20502b5ccea69aeb91edd0f1f82020-02-26T01:02:00+00:002020-02-26T01:07:43+00:00balderGreene LizAstrologyCeltesMythologyRaces

Introduction. There was a time, not so very long ago, when an astrological consultation was something people sought because they wanted predictions about the future-money, love, health-and, if there was any “character analysis” involved at all, it consisted primarily of the astrological “cookbook” kind: You are a Gemini and therefore you are clever, versatile and articulate. This listing of static personality traits was either already well known to the client, in which case there was not a great deal of value to be gained from such a reading; or the client could not immediately identify with the character traits described, in which case the validity of astrology itself was consequently held in question. Naturally there are still many people who go to an astrologer for these reasons-predictions and a pat on the back about one’s apparently fixed and unalterable behaviour -and there are still many astrologers who will happily oblige such clients by providing the information requested. But over the years, particularly the last five years, there has been a gradual change not only in the reasons why people seek out astrologers, but also in the kind of people who seek them out; and the astrological community has in turn met this challenge and has begun to formulate a different and much more creative kind of astrology, built firmly upon tradition but adapted to the changing and more sophisticated needs of the client. There was a time, not so very long ago, when an astrologer’s clientele was fairly predictable-a fair number of show business people, notoriously “superstitious” anyway, and a smattering of upwardly spiritually mobile aspirants hoping for a formula for enlightenment without mess. This, too, has been changing. Now the astrologer’s client may be anybody at all, from a government minister to a secretary, from a doctor to an artist, from a computer programmer to a fashion model. ...
Greene Liz - Sasportas Howard - Dynamics of the unconsciousurn:md5:0dcf9c0d6e06dd396a1b5f18117779042020-02-26T00:54:00+00:002020-02-26T01:03:30+00:00balderGreene LizAstrologyChristianityEconomy

Introduction. Among all the proliferating maps and models of the human psyche which are now available to us, there is one which dominates the rest in depth, subtlety and importance: the duality of conscious and unconscious. This view of the psyche is called “dynamic” because of the tension, movement and exchange implicit in such a duality; and its official history begins in 1775 with the Viennese physician Franz Anton Mesmer’s discovery of what he called the “universal fluid.” Of course human duality is a much older concept than Mesmer’s, although known in antiquity under other, more mythic names. But in the two centuries following Mesmer have come the giants of modern depth psychology-Charcot, Janet, Freud, Klein, Adler, Jung-and a growing body of knowledge and skill has become available to those who wish to, or must, traverse the strange byways of the unconscious. Viewed through the flattening lens of behavioural observation, the astrological chart is static: no more than a listing of fixedcharacter traits, or a map of potentials many of which, for inexplicable reasons, the individual cannot seem to fulfil. But viewed through the three-dimensional lens of a conscious-unconscious duality, an entire play emerges-full of the twists and turns of a surprising plot, teeming with tragic and comic Shakespearean characters, ornamented with ingeniously changing stage sets and costumes, punctuated by perfectly timed cues, the opening and closing of the curtain, and intervals where everyone goes out for a cup of tea. The astrological chart is indeed a map of potentials and character traits, and reveals a rich portrait of a complete individual personality. But, like the characters in a play, the planets do not all come out at once; the parts may be played differently according to interpretation and the skill of the actors; the timing may be mucked up by a stage manager too preoccupied with what the audience will think. ...
Greene Liz - Relatingurn:md5:0fc7fc9c611d2c0405ddc495184450182020-02-26T00:47:00+00:002020-02-26T00:50:25+00:00balderGreene LizAstrologyChristianityEngland

Introduction. In the tale of Beauty and the Beast, it seems somehow right, familiar, and fitting that the Beast, for all his ugliness, his sternness, and his capacity to inspire fear, should at the end turn into the Handsome Prince and marry the heroine. This feeling of rightness is characteristic of the response that fairytales evoke because the stuff from which myth and fairytale are composed is a symbolic portrayal of the values of the collective unconscious psyche of man. They are apparently innocent, yet have a curiously compelling and familiar ctuality. Beneath the many cultural differences which provide the superficial detail of these stories, there lies a bare simplicity of plot and character, for these are portrayals of man's inner psychic experiences, the bare bones of his subjective life. There is always the same hero, the same beautiful princess, the same stupid giant, the same treasure buried underground. The Beast is always the dark face of the Handsome Prince. ...
Greene Liz - The astrology of fateurn:md5:4d754c22f638e50d7728b80f6b526ade2017-06-19T14:31:00+01:002020-02-23T00:57:29+00:00balderGreene LizAstrologyEconomyJew

In troduction. What is ordained is master of the gods and thee. Euripides. Once upon a time, it is said, there lived in Isfahan a young man who spent his days as servant to a wealthy merchant. On a fine morning the young man rode to market, carefree and with his purse jingling with coins from the merchant's coffers to buy meat and fruit and wine; and there in the market-place he saw Death, who beckoned to him as though about to speak. In terror the young man turned his horse about and fled, taking the road that led to Samara . By nightfall, filthy and exhausted -he had reached an inn there, and with the merchant's money procured a room, and collapsed upon the bed with mingled fatigue and relief, for it seemed he had outwitted Death. But in the middle of the night there came a knock at the chamber door, and in the doorway stood Death, smiling affably. 'How come you to be here?' demanded the young man, white-faced and trembling; 'I saw you only this morning in the market-place in Isfahan .' And Death replied : 'Why, I have come to collect you, as it is written. For when I saw you this morning in the market-place in Isfahan, I tried to say that you and I had an appointment tonight in Samara. But you would not let me speak, and only ran away .' ...
