THESE Lectures were given at the invitation of a Committee, composed of resident gradu ates in the University of Cambridge. This Committee, though quite unofficial, contained representatives of all schools of thought in the Church, and some Nonconformists. Its members were of opinion that, in view of the wide interest taken by Cambridge under graduates in religious questions and discus sions thereupon, a course of constructive lectures on the basis of the Christian Faith might be advantageous. The Committee did me the honour to ask me to give such a course. The Lectures were delivered in the Victoria Assembly Rooms, on Wednesday afternoons, in the Lent Term, 1906, and were attended by from 250 to 300 persons, of whom about four-fifths were under graduates.
