Steiner Rudolf (1861–1925) called his spiritual philosophy 'anthroposophy', meaning 'wisdom of the human being'. As a highly developed seer, he based his work on direct knowledge and perception of spiritual dimensions. He initiated a modern and universal 'science of spirit', accessible to anyone willing to exercise clear and unprejudiced thinking. From his spiritual investigations Steiner provided suggestions for the renewal of many activities, including education (both general and special), agriculture, medicine, economics, architecture, science, philosophy, religion and the arts. Today there are thousands of schools, clinics, farms and other organizations involved in practical work based on his principles. His many published works feature his research into the spiritual nature of the human being, the evolution of the world and humanity, and methods of personal development. Steiner wrote some 30 books and delivered over 6000 lectures across Europe. Introduction. Christopher Bamford. From several perspectives, the present volume, which contains the core proceedings and some important consequences of the Congress of the Federation of the European Sections of the Theosophical Societies (Munich, Whitsun, 1907), records a - perhaps even the - pivotal moment in the progressive manifestation of Rudolf Steiner's spiritual mission: to establish Anthroposophy as the mystery teaching of our time. In addition and more generally, the Congress and its documents mark a watershed in the emergence of Western esotericism into the outer, public sphere as a vehicle for cultural and social renewal. The volume therefore has an exoteric historical significance beyond its undoubtedly far-reaching esoteric consequences for the Anthroposophical Movement. In terms of Steiner's biography, the Congress marked the completion of the seventh year since providence (and karma) had first brought him into the Theosophical orbit in 1900. Having realized during the first half of his life the inner and outer Christiangnostic and Rosicrucian initiatory stages necessary to step onto the world stage as a teacher, Steiner recognized in the Theosophical Society the right conditions and forces for the realization of his mission. Understanding this, he strove with his entire being to realize the opportunity the moment offered. In 1902, he assumed the mantle of spiritual teacher and accepted the position of the General Secretary of the German Section. Five years of full Theosophical activity followed, during which interest and participation in the Movement expanded exponentially. ...
Steiner Rudolf - Vaccination in the work of Rudolf Steinerurn:md5:a7363f6ad2db5b466986b58d13c02da72022-08-21T01:58:00+01:002022-08-21T01:58:00+01:00balderSteiner RudolfVaccin

Introduction. In the case of vaccination there is considerably less material in the Collected Works than there is for viral illnesses and epidemics. What material does exist is ambiguous for two reasons. The first is that the German word for vaccination is exactly the same as the word for injection. Etymologically we can understand quite easily the reason for this. The first vaccinations were injections, and these injections conferred immunity when undertaken prophylactically. Even into the 21st century, in common usage German does not employ a separate word for the distinct procedures of injecting a substance for any other reason, or an injection for the purpose of inoculation. German usage has, in more recent years, borrowed the word vakzination from the English, but this was not common usage during Steiner’s time. He used it exactly once in the Collected Works, while talking to medical doctors. Yet he talked extensively about the processes underlying vaccination to many audiences. ...
Steiner Rudolf - Guardian angelsurn:md5:20e3952e2931a4eef5d09e59b60fc01b2021-06-15T13:57:00+01:002021-06-15T13:05:01+01:00balderSteiner RudolfAnthroposophy

Preface by EHR ENFRIED PFEIFFER, M.D.(HON.). In 1922/23 Ernst Stegemann and a group of other farmers went to ask Rudolf Steiner’s advice about the increasing degeneration they had noticed in seed-strains and in many cultivated plants. What can be done to check this decline and to improve the quality of seed and nutrition? That was their question. They brought to his attention such salient facts as the following: Crops of lucerne used commonly to be grown in the same field for as many as thirty years on end. The thirty years dwindled to nine, then to seven. Then the day came when it was considered quite an achievement to keep this crop growing in the same spot for even four or five years. Farmers used to be able to seed new crops year after year from their own rye, wheat, oats and barley. Now they were finding that they had to resort to new strains of seed every few years. New strains were being produced in bewildering profusion, only to disappear from the scene again in short order. A second group went to Dr. Steiner in concern at the increase in animal diseases, with problems of sterility and the widespread foot-and-mouth disease high on the list. Among those in this group were the veterinarian Dr. Joseph Werr, the physician Dr. Eugen Kolisko, and members of the staff of the newly established Weleda, the pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprise. ...
Steiner Rudolf - Nutritionurn:md5:fae9c5942758239f51768f467b5776952020-10-11T00:16:00+01:002020-10-10T23:26:56+01:00balderSteiner RudolfAnthroposophy

Introduction. Nutrition is a subject which has firmly entered our general awareness today. From the growth of obesity in wealthy western societies to the quality of our food and the way it is produced, what and how we eat has become a subject of debate at all levels from government policy-makers to the home. Healthy eating has become just as much part of the debate around ecological lifestyles, sustainable agriculture, intensive farming and animal rearing, the value of organic foods and how we treat the planet as the overarching questions associated with global warming and the future of human development. Rudolf Steiner may not yet in his day have had to grapple with wider ecological issues such as whether it is more ecologically sound to fly beans thousands of miles from Africa to European markets than to grow them closer to home in the colder European climate using hot houses which may leave just as large a carbon footprint because of the energy needed to heat them, but nutrition as a subject was well established. The investigation of the composition of foods and the effect on health of proper amounts of substances like carbohydrates, minerals, fats and proteins had started in its modern form in the mid-eighteenth century. In 1770, Antoine Lavoisier, the ‘Father of Nutrition and Chemistry’, discovered the actual process by which food is metabolized. In the early 1800s the discovery was made that foods are composed primarily of four elements—carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen—and methods were developed for determining the amounts of these elements. In the midnineteenth century the German chemist Justus Liebig undertook influential work on plant and animal physiology. It is worth noting that chemistry, along with the natural sciences and mathematics, was one of the subjects studied by Steiner during his student days in Vienna. ...
Steiner Rudolf - Oswald Spengler Prophet of World Chaosurn:md5:92b1e7deaa6a17062241e05a8054aabc2020-09-29T15:38:00+01:002020-09-29T14:43:02+01:00balderSteiner RudolfAnthroposophyProphecy

Introduction. We must regain the understanding that we are not on earth just to build things in the physical universe during our physical existence. We must understand that during our whole existence we are connected to the whole world. Those who have passed through the gates of death want to work with us on the physical world. This working together only appears to be a physical collaboration, for everything physical is only an outer expression of spirit. Materialism has alienated human beings from the world of the dead. Spiritual science must help us make friends again with that world. The time must come when we no longer alienate ourselves from the dead. for it is our alienation that prevents them from spiritualizing the physical world. The dead cannot grasp things in the physical world with their hands or do physical work. To believe that would be superstition. The dead can, however, work in a spiritual way. ...
Steiner Rudolf - The karma of vocationurn:md5:30c9e501277aee8c64574d35c30106bc2019-10-16T00:54:00+01:002019-10-15T23:57:57+01:00balderSteiner RudolfAnthroposophyArabieCivilizations

Lecture 1. Tomorrow I shall begin my discussion of the problems related to the connection of the spiritual scientific impulses with various unclarified tasks of the present time, and the influence that spiritual science must exert on individual, especially scientific, problems. Then I should like to refer to what I may call, in the sense of the fifth post-Atlantean cultural epoch, the karma of human vocation. Today I shall take as my point of departure something that seemingly has little to do with that theme, but it will afford an opportunity to connect various related matters. I shall endeavor to point out the element in Goethe's life that characterizes him especially as a personality of the fifth post-Atlantean epoch, and much to which I have recently referred will, of course, be echoed in my remarks. I should like to bring before your souls the very facts pertaining to this personality that will enable anyone to distinguish important phenomena of the advancing post-Atlantean cultural epoch. In relation to the spiritual interests of humanity, the life and personality of Goethe are comprehensive and decisive to an extent that can hardly be ascribed to any other individual. Still, it may also be said that, in spite of much that has occurred, his life and personality have had the least possible effect on our lives. This, however, must be attributed to the very nature of our modern culture. It may be asked how it can possibly be said that the life of Goethe has remained without effect. Are not his works known? Has not an edition of his works, consisting of hundreds of volumes, been published recently? Did not his published letters number six or seven thousand by the turn of the century, and today number almost ten thousand? Is there not a wealth of literature concerning Goethe, one might almost say in every civilized language? Do not his works continue to be produced on stage? Is not his major work, Faust, brought again and again before the minds of men ? ...
Steiner Rudolf - The electronic Doppelgängerurn:md5:0650ef27aeea9c9e22ed73610b4b1f2e2019-10-16T00:45:00+01:002019-10-15T23:51:11+01:00balderSteiner RudolfAnthroposophyConspiracyForbidden HistoryNibiruUFO

Prefatory Note. The contents of this book are selected from the matter of Rudolf Steiner's Esoteric School. The School remained in existence for ten years from 1904 to 1914, when the outbreak of the First World War prevented its continuance. During that period Rudolf Steiner was still within the Theosophical Society, and he used the words 'theosophy' and 'theosophical', though always (as he tells us in his Autobiography) in the direction in which his anthroposophical spiritual science had from the first been pointing. After the lapse of a further ten years, when he went on to found the General Anthroposophical Society and himself became its President, his esoteric guidance of those members who sought it was continued on a somewhat different footing, in closer association with the organization and direction of the Society. The institution of the Esoteric School in 1904 had been quickly followed by publishing descriptions of the path which pupils should follow, in the book Theosophy, in the series of Essays, Knowledge of the Higher Worlds. How is it achieved? (first published in book form in 1909), and also in Occult Science: an Outline, which appeared early in 1910. A description of the basic conditions for inner development, particularly of the 'subsidiary exercises', is also to be found in these books, and after their publication Rudolf Steiner sometimes alluded to such exercises by reference to them. In Chapter V of Occult Science: an Outline ('Knowledge of Higher Worlds. Concerning Initiation') he lays down as follows the necessary precondition for all the exercises. We can however understand from this how necessary it is that man should not demand entry into the spiritual world until he has learned and understood certain essential truths of that world by the simple exercise of his everyday intelligence, developed in the physical world. If spiritual development follows the right and normal path, then before he aspires to enter the supersensible world the pupil will already have mastered with his ordinary intelligence the whole of the earlier contents of this book. ...
Steiner Rudolf - The Karma of untruthfulness Volume 1urn:md5:f4530c12816de6d121dbe5975ee0500b2019-05-13T17:57:00+01:002019-05-13T17:03:44+01:00balderSteiner RudolfConspiracyEuropeFirst World WarFranceGermanyJewSecond World War

Introduction. Rudolf Steiner gave the lectures collected in this book to audiences of anthroposophists in Dornach, Switzerland throughout the month of December 1916. The lectures were taken down by a professional stenographer, Helene Finckh, who was solely authorized to do so, and as a result there is only one of the frequent gaps in the shorthand reports that mar transcriptions of Steiner’s lectures in the early years of the century. These lectures are not easy, but Steiner never wanted his work to be easy; he wanted people to work at it in full, active, wakeful consciousness. There is a wealth of historical detail and individual colour here-more perhaps than in any of Steiner’s work, and readers whose grasp of the history is tenuous will find the notes indispensable. Publication history. Given the importance of the content for an understanding of the events surrounding the First World War, it is significant that these lectures ‘were not made accessible, even in the Dornach archive’, until 1948 and even then Marie Steiner ‘decided to bring out a restricted mimeographed edition which was handed out on a personal basis only’. The first German edition in book form did not come out until 1966, and the second edition (from which this translation by Johanna Collis was made) appeared in 1978 (GA 173). Vol. 2 (GA 174) was not available to the public until 1983. The first English translation of Vol. 1 was only published in 1988 (Rudolf Steiner Press, London and Anthroposophic Press, New York), 72 years after the lectures were given, and Vol. 2 did not appear in English till 1992. The two English language volumes contain all the lectures contained in GA 173 and 174; none are omitted. The uniqueness of The Karma of Untruthfulness. We are approaching the centenary of the terrorist assassination at Sarajevo in 1914 that sparked the Great War, which ultimately led to the Second World War and the Cold War. Thus the Great War could be said to have shaped the whole twentieth century. By 2014 there will be no one left who fought in the war. Many might think, ‘What’s the point of dwelling on such an unattractive conflict in the past that has little relevance to the modern world?’, until it is pointed out that the Israel-Palestine problem, the development of Iraq, Fascism, Nazism, Communism, Maoism, national self-determination, the centralization of society and economic organization in the West, women’s rights, the rapid and radical development of aircraft, military technology, and the arts, the end of the old British Liberal Party and the rise of the Labour Party, the break-up of Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union, the decline and fall of European empires and colonialism, the movement for European unity, the United Nations and the emergence of the United States as world superpower-all these were to a greater or lesser degree rooted in or made possible by the Great War. That titanic struggle was a caesura between two ages; it did so much to define and shape the modern world. Its consequences are still with us-many of them in the form of still unresolved problems. It could even be said that with the outbreak of war in 1914, western civilization somehow failed to maintain its progress and has been treading water ever since-despite space rockets, the Beatles, the Pill and the Internet. ...
Steiner Rudolf - On Spengler's Decline of the Westurn:md5:81e72b567a1775c4ff37433f5cbfc3102018-12-04T22:21:00+00:002018-12-04T22:25:15+00:00balderSteiner RudolfAnthroposophyConspiracyHungaryIsraëlMind controlUnited States

Dornach, July 2, 1920. Translated by Norman Macbeth. One who looks around a little in Germany today, and not at externals but with the eye of the soul; one who sees not only what offers itself to the casual visitor, who seldom learns the true conditions during his visit; one who does not cling to the fact that a few chimneys are smoking again and the trains are running on time; one who can to some degree see into the spiritual situation; such a person sees a picture which is symptomatic not only for this territory but for the whole decay of our world-culture in the present cycle. I would like today to point out to you, in an introductory way, a psycho-spiritual symptom which is far more significant than many sleeping souls even in Germany allow themselves to dream. In old Germany decay and decline rule today, and the external things which I have mentioned cannot deceive us about this. But this is not what I want to point to now, for in the course of world-history we often see decay set in and then out of the decay there again spring upward impulses. But if we judge externally, basing our opinion on mere custom and routine and saying that here again everything will be just as it has been before, then we do not see certain deeper-lying symptoms. One such symptom (but only one of many), a psycho-spiritual symptom which I want to bring before you, is the remarkable impression made by Oswald Spengler's book The Decline of the West, which is already symptomatic in having been able to appear in our time. It is a thick book and widely read, a book which has made an extraordinarily deep impression on the younger generation in Germany today. And the remarkable thing is that the author expressly states that he conceived the basic idea of this book, not during the war or after the war, but already some years before the catastrophe of 1914. As I have said, this book makes a particularly strong impression on the younger generation. And if you try to sense the imponderables of life, the things which are between the lines, then you will be particularly struck by such a thing. In Stuttgart I recently had to give a lecture to the students of the technical college, and I went to this lecture entirely under the impression made by Oswald Spengler's Decline of the West. It is a thick book. Thick books are very costly now in Germany, yet it is much read. You will realize their costliness when I tell you that a pamphlet which cost five cents in 1914 now costs thirty-five cents. Of course, books have not risen in the same proportion as beer, which now costs ten times as much as in 1914. Books must always be handled more modestly, even under the present impossible economic conditions. Still the price increase on books shows what has happened to the economic system in the last few years. ...
