Foreword. By Nigel Pennick. Runes have existed in unbroken continuity since their inception more than two thousand years ago. Runic is a time-honored mystical alphabet where each letter has a specific meaning. Each letter embodies an intention laden with deep significance and symbolism that denotes profound connections in the natural world and within the human psyche. Often those who know little about the runes view them as just another means of fortunetelling similar to tarot cards. Indeed, most people come to know the runes through using them as an oracle. But their admirable usefulness in divination is only one small part of their richness. In the Runic Book of Days Kelley Harrell explains how, in addition to being a deeply revelatory oracle that gives us insights into present conditions, the runes are also a useful tool for personal growth. Even as an oracle, casting the runes, whose techniques she details in this book, sometimes gives startling results. The runes first came to prominence in the European spiritual current known as the Northern Tradition in what is now Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and England. Although they, like everything else, have a localized origin, they embody the universal principles that underlie existence. Runes emerged from the most fundamental aspects of human life on Earth and the structure and cycles of the Cosmos. They express the core of universal existence. According to Northern Tradition teachings, the Norse god Odin Allfather, revealer of the runes to the human race, has two attendant ravens called Huginn and Muninn— thought and memory. Each day they fly across the world, observing. These fast-flying birds are symbolic of thought, our consciousness of our being and actions; and memory, our collective history and the sacred observances that are at the root of our being fully human. Everything described by humans must be understandable in human terms, and archetypal symbols embody profound truths. These descriptions, present in the runes, are interpretations of reality according to the innermost structure and function of human consciousness. As Kelley Harrell explains, our most challenging task as humans is finding meaning in self and the world around us. The runes give us a unique means of addressing this existential problem. To those who learn how to use them, the runes can become a spiritual focus that is valuable in our everyday living. Kelley points out that the runes capture the essence of the process of the soul in form, then deliver the wisdom of that story in small, relatable bits. The runes are not an end in themselves. They are a means of achieving personal growth, of embodying spirit through form, of creating manifestation. ...
Pennick Nigel - Signes et symboles secretsurn:md5:7f5ff3df90a68c7b609705b9b6a21aa92018-08-31T15:08:00+01:002018-08-31T14:29:46+01:00balderPennick NigelChinaConspiracyEuropeIsraëlJewMagiePalestinePropagandaRevisionismRunesRussiaSymboliqueUnited States

Introduction. ...
Pennick Nigel - Magical alphabetsurn:md5:e280e8ea20ec94b533f32215e46e05992017-05-12T13:38:00+01:002017-05-18T09:51:38+01:00balderPennick NigelAlchemyAmericaChristianityGreeceJewMagicRunes

Introduction. A symbol is ever, to him who has eyes for it, some dimmer or clearer revelation of the God-like. HELENA BLAVATSKY. At a first, cursory glance, the subject of alphabets, secret or otherwise, may not appear to tell us much about the world and ourselves. But another, longer, look will show anyone of this opinion that he or she is wrong. Alphabets are one of the most highly sophisticated means by which we humans can try to gain some understanding of the world, and our place within it. When constructed properly, as all ancient ones are, each alphabet is metaphorical in nature. Language itself is a metaphor, for it represents objects and concepts whilst it is not those objects and concepts themselves. The very basis of language is metaphorical. We usually distinguish things by comparison; our basic description of the world around us is full of examples. When we ask, 'What is it ?', we tend to reply by making a comparison: we say it is like another thing which resembles it in some way, real or imagined. Within the described thing, object or quality, we seek some character by which it can be fitted into some human conceptual framework. We can see this process in action with reference to the human body. We speak of a body of water, a body of work, even a body of men. We speak of the head of a bed, a table, a page, a nail, a stream of water, a household or an organization. A clock has a face, just as does a playing card, a rock and a piece of planed wood. A hill has a brow, a cup possesses a lip, as does a crater; combs and gear-wheels have teeth, and a page has a foot. Weapons are called arms. ...
Peschel Lisa - A practical guide to the Runesurn:md5:5142e7be8a9ffcf2cce0e97f67ef9d102017-05-12T13:28:00+01:002017-05-18T09:51:46+01:00balderPeschel LisaChristianityMagicProtestantRunesTradition

Introduction. The runic system was in use by the Nordic and Germanic tribes of Northern Europe for both secular and religious purposes. There is some debate among scholars, but the first examples of the runes to phonetically represent language appear to date from around the second century B.C.E. The development of the rune alphabet was a fairly recent occurrence, brought about by the increased trading activity with Mediterranean neighbors who already possessed a fully developed alphabet. Before this time, the runes were primarily a magickal system of pictographs representing the forces and objects in Nature. It was believed that by calling upon the appropriate rune one could thereby make contact with the force in Nature the symbol represented. There were several different runic alphabets in use throughout Northern Europe over the centuries, but the most common is the Germanic or Elder FUTHARK This alphabet received its name from its first six letters-F, V, TH, A, Rand K. It was the system most widely in use between 200 B.C.E. and the late eighth century and the one we shall be concerned with in this book. This alphabet contains 24 letters and is divided up into three groups of eight called Freya's Eight, Hagall's Eight, and Tir's Eight. ...
Cleary Collin - Summoning the Godsurn:md5:ecae104df90e63de6efb1f792d751ffa2017-01-17T18:09:00+00:002017-01-17T18:13:37+00:00balderCleary CollinEconomyEuropeMythologyReligionRunes

Editor’s Introduction. Collin Cleary—the enigmatic sage of Sandpoint, Idaho—burst onto the intellectual scene almost ten years ago, with the publication of the first volume of the journal TYR. Along with Joshua Buckley and Michael Moynihan, Cleary was one of the founding editors of TYR, having a hand in all aspects of the first volume and contributing three substantial articles and several reviews. (Although he is now no longer involved in editing TYR, he continues to contribute to it.) Who is Collin Cleary? He could accurately be described as a theologian of neo-paganism, specifically of the Nordic variety. He is also a Traditionalist with a capital T, meaning that he falls within the same school of thought as René Guénon and Julius Evola. He is a Tantrika (no mean feat for a Nordic pagan). And he is an anti-modern thinker. Cleary is a polymath who has read widely in philosophy, religion, mysticism, mythology, and literature. His principal influences are a surprising combination of figures: Martin Heidegger, D. H. Lawrence, G. W. F. Hegel, Lao Tzu, Evola (but not Guénon, interestingly), the Indologist Alain Daniélou, and the Nordic pagan theorist Edred Thorsson. All of Cleary’s interests and influences are on display in the remarkable essays collected in this volume. The Leitmotiv of these essays is the hypothesis that our ancestors possessed a special kind of “openness” which made them aware of the gods—something that we have now lost. In other words, Cleary does not believe that our ancestors “invented” their gods; instead, they were literally aware of aspects of reality now closed to us. ...
Ambelain Robert - Au pied des Menhirsurn:md5:ea712df39193061759fb71a16f919c442015-05-14T22:19:00+01:002015-05-14T21:22:31+01:00balderAmbelain RobertCeltesEuropeGermanyHyperboréeJewProtestantReligionRunesScandinavieTradition

Note de l'auteur. Most honourable sir and friend, I notified you early in November 1902 that during the months that my eyes were bandaged due to the cataract operation, it would be impossible to begin to work mentally on my intended unravelling of the secret of the runes, but at that time - previously unperceived laws of generation and evolution belonging to our Aryan people, of its emotion, intellect, speech, and writing, came to me. When I reported this to you, you were gracious enough to congratulate me by letter on these discoveries. ...
Flowers Stephen Edred - Red Rûnaurn:md5:960e68209d5f1bb6fe063cf1278c8c6f2015-01-09T23:43:00+00:002015-01-09T23:45:48+00:00balderFlowers Stephen EdredCayenneFranceGuyaneRunesTrinidad

Introduction. Many of the contributions to this volume were originally written for publications within the Temple of Set. There was generally no rhyme or reason as to the subject matter, they mostly represent things which might have caught my fancy as I was doing research on other projects. Each of the contributions has in many ways been edited for a more general readership, corrections have been made, and in many cases the article has been expanded and substantially revised. The article entitled “Offshoots and Parallels of the Lords of the Left-Hand Path” was originally written as the eleventh and final chapter of the book Lords of the Left- Hand Path. (Rûna-Raven, 1997). This chapter was not used in the final version of the book because it seemed that there was a “disparity of magnitude” between the groups and philosophies discussed in the other ten chapters and the ones analyzed in this final chapter. However, there are some interesting ideas contained in this material, which will be found of interest. The text has been somewhat revised and updated since that which first appeared in 1993. The impetus which lies behind the perhaps controversial document entitled “Contra Templum” is the continuing trend of my work being discussed in the context of Setian history and philosophy, when it often has little to do with that philosophy. The “sensationalistic factor” of connecting the object of their study to “Devil-Worship” is often too great a temptation to pass up. I realized that if I were not to make a positive statement to the contrary, scholars who were only looking at biographical details might not be to blame for their misapplications of emphasis. It is from this Need that the document arose. Preface. It has been well over twenty-five years since the publication of Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic. Still, this book is not intended to replace or compete with that one-it is intended to go beyond it. This is the first significant advance in the practice of rune-magic to have been published since that time. In fact a world of advancement has been made over the thirty years since the manuscript for Futhark was completed. After Futhark a myriad of books on rune-magic have appeared-most very bad, some mediocre, and some quite good. But none went beyond the basics. This book will break new ground-theoretically and practically-not just go over the same basic materials one more time. This is also a relatively new kind of book of magic - a text often accompanied by footnotes, references, etc., which bridges the gap between academic runology and "practical magic" - or operative communication. Alu is an operative formula which functioned in ancient times as a mode of connecting the realm of the gods to that of humanity. This book is also designed to break through conventional barriers and bring disparate worlds together. ...
Flowers Stephen Edred - Runeloreurn:md5:079fdc223fb0c2226bd27c2009f8a1c52014-12-25T00:29:00+00:002014-12-25T00:34:24+00:00balderFlowers Stephen EdredChaos MagicMagicPoemRunesScandinaviaShamanismSweden

About the Cover. The Brö stone is an example of a Medieval memorial stone, discussed in Chapter 3. On the surface, its message reads: "Ginnlog, Hölmgel's daughter, sister of Sygröd and of Got, she had this bridge built and raised this stone after Assur her husband, son of Hakon the earl. He was guardian against the Vikings together with Geter. God help now his spirit and soul." As was common with runic memorial stones, it is possible that a deeper occult meaning is encoded into how the runes were actually carved. From a historical perspective, this stone gives us a glimpse of the Swedish coastal defense organization that kept watch against Viking raiders. The Bra stone probably dates to the late 1100's, and is located in Uppsala, the ancient sacred capital of pagan Sweden. ...
Flowers Stephen Edred - Runcaster's handbookurn:md5:0c54df5aae5cadd68b87674ac96ac95c2014-12-25T00:26:00+00:002014-12-25T00:31:26+00:00balderFlowers Stephen EdredChaos MagicMagicMagicRunesShamanism

History & Lore. For the duration and purpose of this class, we will be using the Elder Futhark system. The futhark originally consisted of 24 letters, beginning with F and ending with O, and was used by the northern Germanic tribes of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Northern Germany. The name "Futhark" comes from the first letter of the first six runes (Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kauno). As a form of divination runes are similar to Tarot or I-Ching. They are symbols inscribed on any number of mediums (plastic, wood, stones, cards etc.). The runes represent objects, gods, people, animals, concepts and occurrences. There is more than one version of runes. In Scandinavia the number of Runic letters was reduced to 16 (the "Younger Futhark"). The Anglo-Saxon runes consists of 28 runes, and the Elder Futhark (24 runes) and so on. ...
Flowers Stephen Edred - Rune-Songurn:md5:70b03b1773c830d66ea21579cdc787982014-11-16T19:10:00+00:002014-12-20T23:11:55+00:00balderFlowers Stephen EdredEnglandFranceFreemasonryIrelandJewRevolutionRunes

What is Rune-Song ? Rune-Song contains the essence of the system of Rune-Galdor - the use of Runic sounds to create new realities stemming from the consciousness of the Runer. The tape which accompanies the book demonstrates clearly for the first time just how the Runic sounds are to be made. After centuries of silence the song of the Runes can again be Heard. ...
Heimdalls Horn - Issue 12urn:md5:7a31cfcd3b308618e859825211816eb22014-11-16T01:30:00+00:002014-11-16T01:31:15+00:00balderHeimdalls HornCeltesEddaFranceHébraïsmeRevueRunes

Preface. The Runes as described here are healing, merciful Runes; they will do you no harm. Learn their language and let them speak to you. Play with the possibility that they can provide " a mirror for the magic of our Knowing Selves, " a means of communication with the knowledge of our subconscious minds. Remember that you are consulting an Oracle rather than having your fortune told. An Oracle does not give you instruction as to what to do next, nor does it predict future events. An Oracle points your attention towards those hidden fears and motivations that will shape your future by their unfelt presence within each present moment. Once seen and recognized, these factors become absorbed into the realm of choice. Oracles do not absolve you of the responsibility for selecting your future, but rather direct your attention towards those inner choices that may be the most important elements in determining that future. How can random selection of marked stones tell you anything about yourself? Perhaps these Rune interpretations are simply so evocative that each contains some point which can be accepted as relevant to some part of what is happening at the limits of consciousness any day, any time, to anyone. That is the easiest possibility to accept from a strictly scientific standpoint. Nevertheless, my own play with these Runes has shown coincidence piled upon coincidence and an apparently consistent " appropriateness " in each Rune reading which is difficult to explain by the mechanism I have just described. Can there be other factors that distort the expected randomness of Rune selection so as to provide a language by which the subconscious makes itself and its expectations known? For myself, I maintain an open mind, reminding myself that observations should not be discounted simply because their underlying mechanisms have not yet been satisfactorily explained. So go ahead. Try out these Runes. See if this Oracle can mirror your subconscious process, but remember that such a link may take practice to develop. The Rune interpretations offered here come from the meditations of a gentle, healing mind. They will speak to you of change and growth. The only negativity you will find here relates to the blockage of appropriate growth, while all the positive aspects are transcendent, transforming and lead to breakthroughs. The subconscious you will encounter here is not a fearsome beast in need of obedience training. It is the inner seeker-after-truth who must be helped to save us from ourselves. Dr. Martin D. Preface to the Second Edition (2004). Rune Might has, over the years, proven to be a powerful introduction for many to the world of the runes. The main reasons for this are outlined in the Preface to the First Edition. Increasingly, over these same years I have found myself drifting further and further away from the kind of magic outlined in the pages of Rune-Might. However, I know that the kind of magic outlined in this book can be of tremendous use to the aspiring practitioner of active, or experiential paleology. ...
